Sawnee Elementary School
Marla Callahan
I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Sawnee Elementary School for the 2026–2027 school year. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to become part of this incredible community and begin this next chapter together.
My journey in education spans nearly two decades and has included roles as a classroom teacher, academic coach, assistant principal, and principal. Most recently, I served as Assistant Principal at Kelly Mill Elementary School, and I have previously served as Principal of Harmony Elementary School in Pickens County. Throughout my career, one thing has remained constant: my belief that strong relationships are the foundation of a successful school.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education from Brenau University, my Master’s degree in Education from Piedmont University, and my Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University.
What drew me to Sawnee is the special combination of tradition, excellence, and community pride that is felt the moment you walk through the doors. I have already fallen in love with the rich history of this school and the deep connections that generations of families have built here. I believe honoring those traditions while continuing to grow and innovate is what makes a school truly exceptional.
When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, traveling, spending time outdoors, and making memories with my husband, Michael. I believe schools are strongest when families and educators work together, and I look forward to partnering with you to support every child who walks through our doors.
I am truly honored to join the Sawnee family and cannot wait to learn from you, celebrate your traditions, and build an exciting future together. I look forward to meeting each of you and becoming an active part of this wonderful community.
Go Chiefs!
